About
Manjamedia.com was established in March 2009 for a variety of reasons, all of them boiling down to the fact that I want to be employed as a journalist.
My husband, Ben Fischer (a reporter) and I grew up wanting to be journalists. We got out in the field just in time to be told that journalism is dying and we’d have been better off just going to law school. Ben was told that his reporting would probably no longer be needed because some blogger can just do it for free. And I was informed that newspapers were too set in their ways to become vibrant sources for online news.
So I started this site to not only get our work out there for the inevitable series of job searches in our future, but also to spread the word that our generation of journalists isn’t quite so ready to call in dead. We fully believe “old media” can be saved in some form – but it’ll require a lot of systemic change.
As Hunter S. Thompson said, “For every moment of triumph, for every instance of beauty, many souls must be trampled.”
Today’s journalists aren’t all going to make it in this new world of media – but we, at least, are going to try our damndest to be among those that do. Hopefully with some of what we post on Zombie Journalism, we can carry some others along with us.
